Flyfishing Guerilla - Ahr River Ultra Light

Flyfishing Guerilla - Ahr River Ultra Light (Germany)
by Stephan Dombaj

"60 Minutes, a tinny flyrod and some great expectations!"

Okay, here we go with the rules, I was taken to a private fishery in western germany due to a former light line underhand-casting instruction. I had 60 minutes of fishing left - the perfect challenge for me and my 2wt. Loop Opti Creek Combo. The size of the river itself justifies the use of light tackle...but there was something, that was far more striking than the size of the water...

Well, 60 min. including the preperation of your tackle and getting dressed also means that every single cast counts and furthermore that you have to pick the right flypattern. I was searching for a true killerfly that kicks ass big time - anytime. Softhackle-Tungsten nymph = item to go. Well, here is a short overview...

My lazy-ass wasted 15 min. of time for getting ready...so here we go, praying for some fish action.

(couple of these... 15min left)

30minutes of fishing and a couple of pretty sweet brownies and one decent bow - things could be worse. Then I found a possible big fishspot - first drift: Bang!
